Revision [1789]

Last edited on 2008-10-30 16:02:48 by WillyPs [Replaced the Google translation of Atan's explanation of v.1.3 with Atan's own translation.]
Additions:
From Atan: (Translation by Atan, the original text can be found [[http://www.descentforum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4186 in this thread]]):
There is a newer version of LevelInfo (1.3) available in the D3Edit - Development - Forum D3 Editing Tools section at [[www.descentforum.de. descentforum.de]]
It's not possible to choose a room by entering a number directly, so I inserted Jump Forward / Jump Backwards using keystrokes. Numpad Enter or Numpad Plus will let your ship jump to the next room. Numpad Colon or Numpad Minus will let you ship jump back into the prev room. If there are room numbers where the room is non-existent, LevelInfo will jump over those room numbers automatically. Same is for doors and terrain because LevelInfo can't handle these areas. So this is needed to prevent possible crashes. But you are still able to fly through these areas using LevelInfo and get your infos.

Thanks Atan, LevelInfo is a great tool for the level designer! And being able to jump rooms is a big timesaver!

From Atan: (Translation by Google, the original text can be found [[http://www.descentforum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4186 in this thread]]):
An updated beta version of the LevelInfo Tools (1.3) is located in the D3Edit - Development - Forum D3 editing tools.
Direct dial a room number is not, therefore, I have a front / back - Jump function via buttons eingebastelt.
With ""Numpad"" Enter or ""NumPad"" Plus it's forward.
With Numpad comma or minus ""NumPad's"" backwards.
Here are gaps in the numbering automatically skipped.
The same also applies to terrain and Doors, because problems arise when direct Ansprung / Aussprung lead to crashes.
Fly through all the rooms / Doors / terrain goes as usual.

Additions:
If you are getting shell errors, check the region count. If a region has a vert in common with the shell, Verify may not count that as a bad shell, but Level Info will. So if Level Info shows three regions and a shell error, but you know you have four regions, check to see if one region has one or more verts in common with the shell. If so, separate the vert and move it slightly so it does not count as a duplicate vert.

=====Level Info=====
Atans' mod, Level Info, shows you a variety of info as you fly a mine. Install by placing 'check.d3m' in your netgames folder. To use it, you will need to be sure a multiplayer mode is enabled for the level you want to check. To do this, open the level in D3Edit and check 'Anarchy' in the QuickTest tool box, if it's not already checked. Save your mn3, and in D3 choose multiplayer (even if it is a singleplayer mission) and click 'Start New Game'. Find your level, and for game type, choose 'Check'. Start the game and you will have some extra text on your screen. Some of this text is displayed by default, some you activate with the appropriate keys as listed.

Additions:
Level Info will help you identify errors, room attributes, and more. Fly with Level Info to test your level, it makes it easy to identify areas that need tweaking. Particularly in large levels it's handy to have the room number displayed so you can make notes on texture alignment, power-up placement, etc. Note, your bots will be gone as it plays in anarchy mode. This is good, though, as you won't be distracted having to deal with bots while you are checking for problems.
Another feature is that with all the tests turned on it loads the engine. Areas of your mine that run smoothly test flying alone may not run so smooth when a large number of players are present. Running with all the tests on will reveal areas that may need tweaking to improve framerate issues. Again, take note of the room numbers.
